Traveling in Suburban train cost more from Jan 1



Commuters will have to pay increased fare from January 1, 2013 while traveling in Mumbai Suburban trains as the railway board has hiked surcharge for repayment of loan taken Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).

The surcharge is levied according to distance slab. There will be no increase on travel between 1-10 km. The surcharge is for 11-50 km, 51-100 km and 101 to 150 km.

The single journey fare will now cost Rs 2 and Rs 4 more by second class and first class category travel, respectively.

For Monthly Season Ticket (MST) the minimum fare hike is Rs 20 and the maximum Rs 40 in second class. The minimum increase in first class is Rs 40 while maximum is Rs 80 for first class MST.

For Quarterly Season Tickets (QST) the increase is between Rs 60 and Rs 120 in second class and from Rs 120 to Rs 240 in first class.
