How to get better at Drawing

Nowadays Art is one of the most important things this world requires. Without it it would be a colorless world with no games, music, comics etc. And drawing is one of the basics when it comes to art. I know some people who get frustrated with drawing, because they can't get shape right, or the eyes are of different sizes etc. As an art student I'll give you guys a few pointers on how to get better at drawing from my personal experience.

First, don't start your drawing with complete detail. For e.g if you're drawing a human character, don't start everything at once. Go step by step. First start off with simple shapes, like a circle for the head, a rectangle for the upper body, two rectangles for the legs and cylinders for the arms. My advice would be to draw them with a different colour pencil. So that when you get to the adding details part, you won't get confused and the overall shape of the figure and also it will look more organised.

Second, don't get discouraged easily. I used to be that type of person. When my drawing didn't look the way i wanted it to look, then I would just quit. But you should understand no one can get it on their first try. Even the famous artists who display amazing art pieces, they got to that level through countless amount for drawings. But they never gave up. They kept on trying and trying, when they finally got it.

Third, use a lot of references. I can't tell you enough, how much reference is important. If you're about to start drawing something and you already have the idea, don't start drawing. First look up on internet. There are countless amount of references. References give you an idea on how that particular object looks like from a different angle or how they look in real life etc. Also, see video tutorials. On Youtube there are so many tutorials that can help you out. If you going to try digital painting, my advice would be to go to digitaltutors.com. That website has everything you need to know about digital painting. Sure Youtube also has tutorials, but those tutorials are meant for those people who already know the basics of digital painting. People who are just about to attempt digital drawing, you guys will get lost. So that why go to digitaltutors.com. They have tutorials for everyone, from beginner to expert. Plus, the people who teach you are certified art teachers.

Fourth and most important of all. Practice. Keep practicing everyday. One of my classmates draws 20 drawings of the same topic per day till she can draw it with ease. Its just like Math. You can learn the techniques, but to actually solve that problem, you need to practice Math everyday.

So people out there who think they are not good at drawing, don't tell yourself that. Remember no one is perfect at drawing. Even the famous artists have some mistakes in their art, but they just practice everyday and learn how to not make the same mistake again. People are not born with talent. They are born with potential. So keep practicing everyday and I can guarantee you that you will see improvement in yourself.
